The training course will last for 6 days and will include lectures,
practical, case studies, visits to farms and ad- equate time for discussion.
The lectures are based on the information contained in "Health Management
in Shrimp Ponds" and are illustrated with an extensive range of photographic
slides.
The course will emphasize the benefits of maintaining healthy stock
and preventing disease through management of the pond. The use of
chemical treatments will be covered but only as part of an integrated
management system.
Registration fee US$ 750: The registration
covers the cost of tuition a copy of "Health
Management in Shrimp Ponds", and the workshop dinner. Participants
will be responsible for the cost of hotel accommodation and
subsistence during the workshop.
The hotels usually used by participants is very closed to the training
venue and room rates range between US$ 35~50 per night. We will be
happy to make booking for participants if indicated so in the Registration
Form.

Outline of course syllabus
| Introduction
A brief discussion of the format
and objectives of the course.
Update on shrimp culture systems
The rapidly changing nature of shrimp
farming with reference to intensive and less intensive systems.
Pond preparation
The preparation of the pond from
site selection to stocking.
Water management
The management including monitoring
and manipulation for a variety of systems from high water
exchange to closed re-circulation.
Farm records
Real farm data will be presented
to emphasise the need for accurate records and the use of
such records to identify and prevent problems.

Diseases
The theory of disease and a description
of the major diseases of farmed shrimp. The emphasis will
be on improved production through disease control.
Larval assessment
Methodology for evaluating the health
of PLs.
Chemical treatments
The use of chemical treatments as
part of an integrated management strategy.
Current situation in Thailand
The current disease problems faced
by the industry and the very latest techniques employed to
overcome these problems.
Field trip
This is an opportunity for participants
to visit a hatchery and grow-out sites. The farms visited
are extremely co-operative and will provide a great deal of
practical information.
Case studies
Problems based on real farm data.
Participants are asked to attempt to solve these problems
as working groups and present their findings for further discussion.
